I’m going to visit Hamburg for 2 days, what would you recommend seeing in the suburbs?
There are many cosy cities around Hamburg that you can visit for vacation or just on weekends.
Some of these cities include Lübeck, Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund, Stade
Lübeck is a cosy city that you can visit for short vacations or weekend getaways. Lübeck was a Hanseatic League town for centuries, and it still has the medieval centre with buildings from the late Gothic period.
The most famous building in Lübeck is the Holsten Gate, which dates back to the 13th century. It also contains the Talhoffer Museum of Medieval Weapons and Fighting Arts, which includes fencing exhibitions.
Wismar is a town in the northeastern German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
We spent three days in Wismar and had an amazing time. We did the Baltic Sea coastal walking tour by foot, bikes, and boats. I was amazed by the beauty of all places we visited. The weather was very comfortable with some rain but not much! 🙂 So it can’t be more perfect.
In Rostock, you can take a walk on one of the oldest streets of Germany, the Uhlenstraße. This street will lead you to one of the most popular tourist sites in this region, the UNESCO-listed town hall from the 14th century.
Stralsund is a city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Stralsund is on the Baltic coast, about 20 km from a coastal ferry. The old town of Stralsund has a centre that feels like a miniature version of Hamburg. We stayed for three days in one of the city’s boutique hotels, and it was really nice to be there. We were fortunate enough to enjoy the beach during our stay, which was very nice and well equipped with all kinds of restaurants and bars.
